Biography

Dr. Marvin Chung is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology at the University of Hong Kong. He received his undergraduate medical degree from University of Hong Kong and Master of Surgery from University of Edinburgh. He completed his orthopaedic specialty training at the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Queen Mary Hospital, and obtained his fellowship from Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Royal College of Surgeons of England, and Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Chung is serving as a specialist hand surgeon at Queen Mary Hospital, Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital and Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong. He has received training in Massachusetts General Hospital and Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand & Microsurgery in the USA, and was awarded the Chi Li Pao Foundation Scholar for his traveling fellowship to the Robert A. Chase Hand & Upper Limb Center at Stanford University. His clinical interest spans a wide range of hand & wrist conditions, including minimally invasive and ultrasound-guided hand surgery, wide awake surgery without tourniquet, spasticity management in stroke and cerebral palsy, peripheral nerve pathology and reconstruction in upper and lower limbs. He has given over 20 invited lectures in upper limb orthopaedics, and has published over 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Apart from clinical duties, Dr. Chung is also heavily involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He holds key positions as the MBBS Programme Director (Pre-clinical) and Deputy Director of MBBS Admissions of HKUMed, and was elected as a member in Academy of Medical Educators UK and Faculty of Surgical Trainers of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is an academic advisor of medical students in pre-clinical and clinical years, with track record of supervising medical students and postgraduate research students in orthopaedic research. He also holds hospital administrative responsibilities as the Intern Coordinator of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Queen Mary Hospital.

Dr. Chung is an advocate of patient education and empowerment. He is a committee member in Global Nerve Foundation promoting awareness in peripheral nerve pathology, and the Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons Public Information Committee where he endeavours in promulgating health information in hand and peripheral nerve diseases to the general public.
