一般巿民可能會覺得運動創傷只會發生於職業運動員身上,但其實任何年齡的人士都有可能受影響,如十多歲少年的前十字韌帶撕裂、四十歲男士患有網球手、七十歲老婦出現肩旋轉袖肌腱撕裂等,這些運動創傷都有機會發生在你和我身上。
運動創傷的成因大致上可以分為兩大類:第一類為急性意外引致的創傷,第二類為累積性創傷。累積性創傷即舊傷口未及癒合便重覆受到創傷,久而久之身體組織出現勞損,網球手便是其中一個例子。
所謂預防勝於治療,無論進行任何運動,熱身除可提高表現外,更可防止受傷。使用正確的器材和穿著合適的衣服,並於進行高風險運動,如單車及滑雪時,佩戴適當的保護裝備減低受傷的機會。
如不幸受傷,應立刻停止運動。可使用冰敷及繃帶包紮,並把患處抬高以加速消腫。經過醫生診斷及檢查後,一般處理方法可分為保守性治療或手術。保守性治療包括口服及注射性藥物以及復康性運動治療。若然傷勢較嚴重或保守性治療無效,醫生大多會考慮替病人進行手術。由於運動員大多希望以最短的時間康復,盡快再作比賽,因此微創外科手術亦是治療運動創傷非常普遍的療法,因為術後傷口較小、痛楚較輕、留院時間較短,而且康復速度亦較快。
